4/24/14 night in sports

What a great night in sports last night. I watched the Pacers game and literally can’t explain what has happened to them. I can’t tell if they simply don’t have the discipline to win right now or if they simply don’t care. Their body language showed that they didn’t want to play last night and the only guy I thought who cared was West and even that is a stretch. They pushed hard to get the #1 seed but look like the shot all their bullets to get there.

Ok, ok, enough with that topic. I watched the Minnesota Wild vs Colorado Avalanche play game 4 and I thought it was a great game. Sure I’m a bit biased but the Wild skated around Colorado like they were the Pacers…too good of an analogy not to use. The shots on goal were 32 to 12 in favor of the Wild and that alone should have won them the game but I tip my hat to the Wild’s penalty kill. It has been outstanding all year and ridiculous in the playoffs.

Finally, I caught the second half of the Warriors/Clippers game. Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan are simply too much down low. Blake was channeling his inner Tim Duncan knocking a few corner bank shots to add to his ridiculous and unstoppable low post game. Chris Paul started out slow but finished well and the Clippers were able to hold off the Warriors for the win. I love Steph Curry and Clay Thompson and their ability to shot the 3 and depending on who you ask Steph was fouled on his 3 at the end of the game but to me it was too little too late. I like this match-up because it’s really even. At this point I don’t know who will win it but I like how they are both playing.

Tonight the Rockets play the Blazers in a great match-up. Aldridge is playing out of his mind and if he keeps that up they’ll sweep the Rockets. The Wizards are a surprise being up 2 – 0 on the Bulls but the Bulls simply don’t have the offense to go deep without Rose. I’m not going to talk about the Nets vs Raptors as I’m just bored there. I won’t be watching any hockey but  this weekend has a bunch of great playoff games and I’ll be sure to catch as many of them as I can. Have a great weekend!

Super Bowl Sunday!

Well it’s the big day and I’ve got some thoughts and my pick. First, I’m glad the Richard Sherman chaos ended and people could have a little fun with it. I think I’ve seen about 100 different impersonations of it and now the big game is here. The last two weeks I’ve been thinking that the Hawks defense is just too good but I want Peyton to win. I was really hoping for snow in NJ but it looks like Goodell and the NFL is going to luck out.
For the first time in a while I’m actually excited for this game because it’s the two best teams playing each other. If defenses truly do win championships then Seattle should have this locked up. So with all of this being said the mind says pick the Hawks and my heart says Broncos. So I am going to pick……..the Broncos.
Now go eat all that freaking awesome food and have a few beers and enjoy what I hope to be an epic Super Bowl!

“Dick” Sherman sorry for attack and Superbowl Predictions

Ok so we have all heard the ridiculous rant by Richard “Dick” Sherman after the NFC Championship game but now he’s sorry. I’m not sure what bugs me more that he went off like he did after making literally 1 play in the entire game or that he’s now sorry. The “I’m sorry”, “I could have worded things differently”, “It is what it is now” is all a bunch of crap. My guess is that he was getting so much negative press and so was the team (which is really the root of it) and he’s being forced to apologize. Freaking have some balls and if you’re going to be a dick then be a dick and don’t turn into a vagina just because your words pissed off people. Yes you’re a good corner in the NFL and hell I’d love to have you on my home team as we haven’t had a good corner since….well I’m not sure we ever have but don’t try and say that you were trying to show sportsmanship to Crabtree…you were simply being a dick and gloating in his face and then you tore him up as being a POS receiver.

Now on to my predictions for the Superbowl. It’s early and these predictions are subject to change due to the weather and any random injuries like Manning falling down the escalator at the hotel or something crazy like that. I think that it will be a really close game and it will come down to whether or not Manning can stay on his feet. The Seahawks defense is fast and strong and can get pressure with just 3 down lineman but they are up against the best QB in the league pre and post snap that I think Manning will be able to get off a lot of short quick passes that will move them down the field well. The Seahawks offense will run through the BEAST and I think he will have a big game. In the end I think that it will be a game in the 20’s with the Bronco’s and Manning winning by 8. Stay tuned as we get closer to the date on any changes but either way it should be a very good game.

NFL Predictions

So we are down to the AFC/NFC Championship games and in my opinion we are down to the 4 best teams in football. In the NFC you have two very balanced teams in that the Seahawks and 49ers can both run the ball and play solid defense. It’s in Seattle and the Seahawks are outstanding at home so it’s really hard to bet against them. Since I just left Vegas and am in a bit if a betting mood I’m going to say the Seahawks win simply because they are at home. With the AFC Championship I’m torn a bit. After the Patriots ran for 6 touchdowns I have to admit that I was a bit impressed by that. I believe the Denver defense is better than than the Colts defense and won’t allow more than one running TD. My guess here is that it’s going to be a shootout where Peyton Manning will edge Tom Brady by a touchdown. Not that any of the games are a good bet either way, but that’s where I’d put my money if I had a gun to my head. Either way I’ll be watching and expecting great games from both divisions.

Vegas Baby!

Just traveled to Vegas for a conference and once again I can’t get on my flight home fast enough. Good business meetings and it was nice to see good friends and business associates but doing the conference at the Paris hotel was a bad choice. Not sure if the Affiliate Summit is trying to spend less money but not providing meeting areas for the 1000’s of people who attended was ridiculous. Either way, I’m heading home and looking forward to it!

Starting out!
